IRON SHARPENS IRONS: Let’s talk about Proverbs 27:17 KJV

Hello my beautiful people! Welcome to my second blog of the week. I hope you enjoyed reading the previous blog which happened to be the first one I ever did. In case if you didn’t, I’d like to remind you this blogging site is solely for the purpose of inspiring people through Christ. There is no intent of monetary gains or ratings whatsoever. This is straight from the heart, and it’s my duty to uplift a lost soul as a brother in Christ. Depression arises amongst us, and we’re all in need of reshaping ourselves. We all need someone who motivates us, pushes us to do better than we did yesterday. The Good Lord says iron sharpens iron, so without further ado, let’s talk about Proverbs 27:17.

WHAT DOES PROVERBS 27:17 MEAN?

As I woke my lazy eyes this afternoon and got myself some tea for my sore throat, I looked at the Holy Bible app on my phone and it says ‘Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend’. That, of course is the verse to Proverbs 27:17, and it was a simple reminder to let us know with motivation from others, we can prevail. God believes we all need someone to push us to do better in our life. He also believes, no man could ever live alone onto the island by himself because we would all get lonely and eventually end ourselves. Now, I know depression and suicidal thoughts are very common all over the world but rarely do anyone realize this particular verse could help. How could it help? Find someone that you know loves you, and start relying on their good advice. It’s time to throw away our negative thoughts, egos, and pride into the waste bin. Don’t you dare recycle it. And how would you know if the advice is actually good or bad? Ask them if know they’re a true man or woman of God with the knowledge of biblical verses. This is because they live and breathe the life of Christ, and they’d never do anything that God vehemently disapprove of. Do they have to be a Christian? No, but they should have a great sense of judgement and skills on prevailing in order to give you that good advice. In another words, to get motivated in life, you’d have to be able to receive advice from someone who is obviously capable of reshaping you mentally and spiritually. I am not saying all true Christians are perfect since no are, but at least they’re able to make you feel like you can be the best in whatever you do. It’s God’s will to have his children be an inspiration to us. Now, the biggest question of it all is, ‘What if I don’t have that someone?’

How can my iron be sharpened?

In the previous paragraph, I mentioned about finding the key person who can give us life advices, a Christian that is. However, it is not necessary for you to find to a Christian to be your iron since so many of them don’t even believe in God. That’s ok because after all, we do need someone to give us that kind of motivation anyhow. The key is to have your iron sharpened so that you can help sharpen others no matter who they are. It’s all about making the community a better place and we can do that once we throw away our negative thoughts, ego, and pride into the waste bin. Ego and pride for our own knowledge on certain topics and areas of expertise could make our irons dull. I mean because, what else is there for us to learn and be motivated by? Its not good to think we know everything, and to think we can do it all by ourselves. It sets us back from humility, the ability to perform, and acknowledgement on needing daily inspiration from someone. We all have a sharp iron that gets dull eventually and is in need of re-sharpening once again.

WHAT TO DO IF I DON’T HAVE SOMEONE TO SHARPEN ME?

If we can’t find someone to sharpen our irons yet, it’s either because we need to go out and socialize, or we socialize with the wrong crowd. Whatever the case may be, we need to love our own iron enough so that we can let other irons sharpen it for us, Iron(s) as in plural because there could be more than one person who influences you. Now once again, the biggest question of it all is, ‘What if I don’t have that someone?’ I’ll answer that for you right now. Since we live in the age of technology and vast resources, there are tons of youtube videos, books, blogs, documentaries and more about self improvement and motivation. It may be a simple and straightforward answer, but I tell you what though. if you can’t find someone to add fuel to your fire or sharpen your iron, what make you think motivational videos and quotes online can’t? Movies about motivation, faith and hope could be of big help. I recommend Life of Pi, Good Will Hunting, or Shawshank Redemption as a head start.

Who is the iron to my iron?

Once again, I left you with the biggest question of this blog and I answered it. (Well sort of) And it’s ‘What if I don’t have that someone?’ If you don’t have that someone to drive you, you can definitely get a head start by watching the movies I recommended in the previous lines. I know I said you should find someone who is a Christian, and someone who can obviously reshape you mentally and spiritually, but that’s just based on my personal experience. I want your experience to be whatever God has in store for you. In real life, online, or movies, it doesn’t matter. You’ll be able to perform your tasks extremely well as a doctor, lawyer, writer, artist, baseball player or whoever you desire to be as long you’re sure that person’s iron is sharper than yours. Simply put, be around someone who has more drive and experience than you do. The Lord says we’ll need someone or something to drive us otherwise we wouldn’t understand the purpose of love. It is inspirational, and it is the sharpest iron of them all. They can be your mom, dad, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, friend or anybody you can imagine. And it can be many irons too. Key is to have the right sense of judgement by being with the right people. So once again, throw away our negative thoughts, egos, and pride into the waste bin and start over by applying the Proverbs 27:17 every day. Remember, God loves every single one of us. He’s the iron that started it all.
