The Genesis
(THE BEGINNING)
Born and raised in a small town of Willingboro, New Jersey, Tachief Shaquille Pollard is a deaf music producer and songwriter. He is the first of the three children born to both African American parents, Marvin Hobbs and Tracey Michelle Pollard. He became profoundly deaf after he was given birth and died for two minutes losing oxygen since his mother’s pregnancy was one month overdue. The doctors were able to revive him but they had to keep him in the hospital for about two weeks. He couldn’t speak any words and stayed quiet thinking the world has no sound until he was 4 years old. That was when he heard a thumping beat through his bedroom wall one night, and overheard a party downstairs. Ever since then, he had a passion for making beats imitating any sounds he heard. At the age of 8 with the lack of any musical instruments, he recorded all of his hums through a SONY cassette tape as if they were real instrumentals. While listening to some of his mother’s favorite inspirational tunes, he studied the types of singers’ voices and why each fits with certain melodies and productions. Although he can’t hear the lyrics word for word, he understands the artists’ tonalities. Using pots and pans to create rudimentary rhythms, his mother felt compelled to purchase him a used 49 keys CASIO Casiotone CT-310 Keyboard for $5. Playing note by note, he started to harness his craft and became more confident on applying to the music theory. This is the genesis of Tachief’s adventures in music.

THE EXODUS
(THE COLLEGE YEARS)
During his freshmen year in college, he used the FL Studio music software program to experiment different types of Caribbean samples and adding his own twists to the melodies. However, he took a break making beats during the end of his first year since he wanted to mend his poor academics classes. After graduating from R.I.T with a bachelor's degree in Inter-Disciplinary Studies, he decided to invest a little on musical instruments. Started off with aggressive hip-hop beats using Logic Pro X program, he decided to switch to a much more christian-friendly vibe. His mother, who had a profound impact as an ordained prophetess, encouraged him to make this decision. A lover of all types of genres, he felt it’s only right to commit an exodus from secular music and create his own melodies that interprets peace, love and faith through Christianity.

THE LAMENTATIONS
(THE INSPIRATION)
Listening to his mother’s sermons and Christian-counseling, he felt it was time to only create music that were deemed soulful and inspirational through Christ. His love for islands inspire him to create smooth instrumentals, and write songs about love, peace and hope. It’s the most effective way to express his lamentations through his life after college. He cites Bob Marley as his influence towards songwriting. Although he is deaf, he has the ability to hear the notes and pitching that needs correction and he loves to work with inspirational artists of any vocal type. From a technical aspect of music itself, he cites Maurice White of Earth, Wind, & Fire, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Babyface, Kanye West and Dr. Dre as his influences in producing. His personal favorite singers are Whitney Houston and Marvin Gaye.

THE PSLAMS
(THE MUSIC)
Most of his music are composed from scratch with all of his heart and soul. Although it pays homage, he firmly believes sampling takes away the flexibility and the originality of his craft. He wants to remain unique and organic as much as possible. As he carefully studied the greats in order to create his own sounds, he trained himself to focus on the artistic integrity of his craft rather than striving for a #1 hit. Just like the lengthy book of psalms, he’s here to create catalogs of inspiring sounds with simple yet profound lyrics. The main purpose is to inspire millions to have great self esteem through his music and be emphatic enough to love one’s neighbor as stated in verse Matthew 22:39. He told us straightforwardly, “Even though this is my career, I’m not doing this for a number 1 hit. I genuinely want to liberate people from this satanic world through the songs I write. I can get paid for my music and that’s a blessing, but I’ve always wanted to use most of my earnings to give back to the less fortunate and help fund for good causes. We have 12 year old kids who only weighs 30 lb. in Yemen, and that just breaks my heart. I’m not big on politics but economically, I know that has to do with why 36% percent of the world’s population lives in extreme poverty. That’s why I try to make my music super affordable through online purchases to use some of that revenue. That’s also why I don’t want my music to feel like a gimmick or some sort of a pretentious cash cow. I believe I can create catalogs of great songs that are purely therapeutic. And that is doing without any songs about sex, cults, or materialism. I try to compose original melodies without having to sample so that you’ll know I’m doing this from my heart through Christianity. Making this world a better place, THAT’S my idea of a number one hit.”

THE REVELATIONS
(THE FUTURE)
Now speaking of hits, his mind is full of melodically inspirational ideas with the right voice. He would spend countless hours producing and crafting the sounds through his visions sent by God. Despite doubts and uncertainties by people who are questioning his ability as a deaf music producer, he is ready to take the music industry by storm. Behold, for he’s about to reveal slews of sounds that Heaven has sent to his ears.

THE HOLY BIBLE
Besides the influences of songwriters and producers mentioned above, Tachief expressed that the Holy Bible has changed his life dramatically, and was able to hear God more clearly than ever before. In fact, the Bible is his biggest influence on his songwriting and sound capabilities.
